You'll love America's National Barbecue Championship in the Nation's Capital.  The Safeway 15th Annual Barbecue Battle will take place June 23 & 24, 2007 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. The Barbecue Battle was voted one of North America's TOP 100 Events by The American Tourism Industry Association and a top BBQ Event by the Travel Channel and Discovery.com.

Here in the shadow of the Nation's Capitol, tens of thousands of people witness barbecue teams and restaurants from around the country compete to win over $25,000 in cash & prizes and the title of National Pork BBQ Champion, as well as a chance to represent the Mid-Atlantic United States at the Barbecue World Championship, Memphis in May. Benefiting the Metropolitan Police Boys & Girls Clubs the Safeway Barbecue Battle celebrates the art of barbecue in a spirit of community, family and fun. The event has raised over $800,000 for it's beneficiaries.

Important Event Information

The Safeway Barbecue Battle is a rain or shine event. There is a tremendous amount of tent cover (dining tents, music tents, and indoor activities like trucks and buses with interactive games, etc.) so there are lots of things to do under cover. 

Teams come from far away and will not go away without a winner being declared, cash and prizes awarded. Also, the event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Police Boys & Girls Clubs who are greatly in need of funds.

Sorry, no coolers, glass bottles, lawn chairs, pets or bicycles are allowed.
